French Toast, Blackstone Style

By: Matt Saemrow

There’s just something about cooking breakfast outside on the Blackstone. Maybe it’s the fresh air, maybe it’s the sound of the sizzle, or maybe it’s that golden crisp you just can’t get from a regular pan. Whatever it is, it makes everything taste better.

🥞 Why You’ll Love This Recipe:

  • Protein boost – Between the eggs and a scoop of protein powder, it keeps you fueled all morning
  • Quick and easy: Just mix, dunk, and griddle
  • Blackstone-approved: That perfect griddle crust adds next-level texture and flavor

🍳 Ingredients:

  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 3 large eggs
  • 6-8 slices of bread (I recommend use Sara Lee Artesano bread)

🔥 Let’s Cook:

1. Mix it Up
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk, cinnamon, protein powder, and eggs until smooth. Make sure there are no clumps—nobody wants a surprise powder pocket!

2. Preheat the Blackstone
Preheat your griddle with low heat and lightly grease with butter or spray. This will typically take 5-7 minutes to get to the correct temperature. If you are using a counter top griddle, try using 350 degrees.

3. Soak the Bread
Once the Blackstone is preheated, dip each slice of bread in the mixture for a few seconds per side. You want it soaked but not soggy. Place each piece of dipped bread directly on the the greased griddle.

3. Fire Up the Blackstone
Cook each slice for 2–3 minutes per side until it’s golden, crisp, and smells like heaven. As they are cooking, you can add a little more cinnamon to enhance flavor. Once fully cooked, remove and plate for serving.

Pro tip: While the French toast is cooking, use the other side of the griddle to cook your favorite breakfast meat. I went with Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage this morning.

🍓 Serving Ideas:

Serve with Greek yogurt for an added protein boost

Top with fresh berries, bananas, or apple slices

Add a drizzle of maple syrup or honey

Sprinkle a little extra cinnamon or powdered sugar

Plate with protein french toast, strawberries and sausage

🥄 Make It Your Own:

  • Dairy-free? Use almond or oat milk.
  • No protein powder? Just skip it—still delicious!
  • Add-ins? A ¼ tsp of vanilla or a pinch of nutmeg works wonders.
  • Feeling Fancy– Swap ¼ cup of the milk with amaretto for a subtle almond flavor.
  • No Blackstone?– Make it using your favorite counter top griddle or break out the cast iron skillet

Whether I’m flipping these for the family or making a quiet solo breakfast on the patio, this French toast never disappoints. It’s fast, it’s flexible, and it’s full of flavor—and that’s exactly how I like to start my day.

Happy griddling!
